Program starts at 10:00 a.m.

Program:                 Sewing and quilting has been a part of my life for many years….although my long-arm business only began late in 1997.  As long as I can remember, I have collected and created in all matter of media.   My parents provided a great support for me in my creative endeavors…our whole family always making something…whether it was a mess, or building a house!!    I graduated from Michigan State in 1964 with a degree in art.  As an art teacher in California, my interest in quilting began in the 60’s, and in the early 90’s, when my sister introduced me to rotary cutters and mats, I knew I had found a great way to create art with fabric and thread.

I love wildly colorful quilts and using humor whenever possible, which is most of the time.  Getting students to see that quilting should be fun and creative, freeing them from obsessive perfection, and just encouraging them to  “play” gives most quilters a view of this art form that many have been afraid to see.  That is why I try to make my classes a supportive, stress-free, and creative environment.

Although she still weaves, her creative fiber work has evolved to include many types of innovative surface design techniques such as beadwork, embroidery, and contemporary uses of antique laces.

May 2017 meeting

We are off to Canada for our meeting in May.  Terry Aske is the guest artist and is should be an amazing program.  Here are the details.

When:                    Saturday, May 13, 2017

Who:                       Terry Aske, Canadian Quilter

Where:                 St. Faith Anglican Church, Vancouver, BC

Time:                       Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.  Program starts at 10:00 a.m.

PROGRAM:       terry My earliest creative memory is from kindergarten, making a mosaic from seeds and beans. This was the beginning of a life-long quest to find the perfect medium to express myself. A friend invited me to join her at a one-day quilting course. Finally, I had found an artistic medium that fascinated and inspired me! I discovered the work of other art quilters and started designing my own quilts. The design and construction of fabric-based art has become my passion.

My style is contemporary, and I create both art quilts and abstract/modern quilts. I use a variety of techniques – machine-piecing, fusible appliqué, thread-sketching and free-motion-quilting are among those I employ most frequently. The design of a piece always evolves during the creative process, and the final quilt is often quite different from my original concept. My goal is to continue to evolve as an artist, exploring new subject matter and techniques in my art quilts.

St. Faith’s Anglican Church, 7284 Cypress St., Vancouver, B. C.  Remember there is an elevator available if needed—just ask!

Change of Venue for meeting

January 14th the meeting will NOT be at the Christian Church in Anacortes–there was a mix up with the church on the dates.  Instead we will meet at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Anacortes.  This church is on M & 9th, so if you follow the directions below (and in the newsletter), turn up 12th and then turn right instead of left onto M and the church is a large brick building on your left on the corner of 9th and M.  Address is 1300 9th Street.

We will meet in the basement fellowship hall.  There is limited handicap parking on the  far side between the church and the museum with an elevator right inside the door.  There is a steep set of stairs through a glass door on M street.  That goes  straight into the fellowship hall. Lots of street parking around the building–just don’t park in the museum parking spots.
