HOSTED BY: Fidalgo Island Quilters
WHEN: Saturday, January 14, 2017
WHO: Lisa Jenni
WHERE: Anacortes Christian Church, Anacortes, WA
TIME: Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Program starts at 10:00 a.m.
In her work, Lisa explores the relationship of colors to each other, how colors enhance or calm down a piece of fiber art, how it directs feelings, emotions, evokes memories. For the last few years, she experimented with free-shape cutting and piecing, painting on fabric, discharge and dye processes. And she spent a lot of time doing free-motion machine quilting, all of which contributes to the many ribbons on her walls. Although, ever since her first quilt, Lisa never lost the passion for the humble stitch by hand, – the mark-making.
Being a trained Cartographer, the habit of extreme precise workmanship helped her to master the technical part; however, coming from a painter’s point of view, she seeks to transfer her vision from a 2-dimensional image into fiber, stitches and texture. Inspiration could come from anything she sees on her many travels, or just roadside a glimpse, line picked up due to a current event, or triggered by a memory from long time ago.
